Security Recommendations

Below are recommendations for your Wi-Fi network which will help secure your EDG system:

💡
Change the default password on your Wi-Fi router. Many router model numbers are shipped with the exact same password. This has resulted in published lists of expected passwords for various routers on the market. To prevent a breach, change your router's password.
💡
Use a Dedicated Wi-Fi Network for your IoT devices (and EDG systems). When connecting EDG's Wi-Fi systems to the Internet, it is recommended to use a dedicated Wi-Fi network that is not available for human users to log into for their web browsing. If you have a very large number of IoT devices on your network, we recommend going one step further and creating a dedicated network for your EDG systems. (The number of Wi-Fi networks available for you to create may be limited by your router.)
💡
EDG strongly recommends never connecting an EDG system to an open Wi-Fi network.
💡
Your Wi-Fi router and Wi-Fi network should each have strong and unique passwords. Create, store, and recall your Wi-Fi network password in a secure password management app such as 1Password. Password apps are a great way to generate (and recall) unique and complex passwords.
💡
Never write down your Wi-Fi network password, or share it with anyone you do not trust. Similarly, do not save your password in your browser. Store passwords with a password app!
💡
Keep the firmware on your Wi-Fi router and other networking gear up to date. EDG's systems support over-the-air (OTA) updates, and we'll use this feature to keep your devices secured for the lifetime of the product! For devices that do not support OTA updates, setup a calendar reminder so you don't forget to check for firmware updates.
